My name is Jordan Yates and I'm a photographer, storyteller, and documentarian born and raised in Washington DC. I found my voice during extensive student led protests in my early years of high school as my peers and I demanded economic and political change at the steps of The White House and The Capitol Building, among many others. I taught myself how to use a camera and since then have used my lens in exploring the connections between people, places, cities, cultures, past, and present. For over 3 years I've lived in Atlanta pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Art in Documentary Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Since beginning my studies at SCAD I have honed my craft in creating photographic narratives while taking influence in and learning about the work of many artists such as Michael Kenna, Jim Krantz, Matt Eich, and Berenice Abbott just to name a few. I've had the opportunity to travel internationally many times since my childhood and have fallen in love with the beauty of our world and strive to capture that beauty in my work.
